Optical design engineer – W/M


SILINA is a deeptech startup that just raised several millions euros to create the new generation of vision systems thanks to a disruptive technology that enables to curve imaging sensors (e.g CMOS). 

This major innovation in the semiconductor field aims to become the new standard in imaging. It brings superior image and detection quality to vision systems in multiple imaging markets, with the added bonus of reducing the weight, volume and cost of these systems.

This technology has already attracted the main players of the following industries: aerospace, smartphone, automotive, augmented reality… The R&D team consists of a dozen young and dynamic people (mechanical, material, electro-optical, optical designer engineer,…) who have the ambition to meet this challenge while finding pleasure in working together. It is based in Gardanne (between Aix-en-Provence and Marseille), and must be strengthened with the integration of an Optical design engineer (W/M) as a permanent position (CDI).

Your missions

You are responsible for the design of optical systems for the next generation of imaging systems using curved focal planes and will assist customers in optimizing their specific optical systems. You will also assist in the electro-optical characterization of image sensors. You will work in an ISO5-8 clean room environment.

Your knowledge of optical system design will allow you to become one of the world’s leading experts and the company’s benchmark on the subject. You will be required to file patents and work with developers of software and optical solutions.

  • Definition and design of optical systems
  • Drafting of technical specifications, definition of key performance criteria
  • Carrying out parametric and comparative studies on a wide range of optical systems using curved focal planes
  • Development of algorithmic tools for performance comparison, for optimization and tolerancing dedicated to optical systems using curved focal planes
  • Assess the influence on the active alignment phase
  • Support of customers in the optimization of their specific optical systems taking into account the curvature capacities of the sensors, and performance analysis in their final environment
  • Support for the realization of opto-mechanical systems: drafting of specifications, management of partnerships for the manufacturing part, integration and performance measurement
  • Assess the influence of sensor curvature on the design of electro-optical testbed
  • Support for the electro-optical characterization of image sensors in a cleanroom

Your profile

  • Master or PhD in optical science and optical system design, you have a minimum experience of 3 years in optical design,
  • Optical system tolerancing experience and manufacturing cost analysis,
  • Mastery of Code V or Zemax and strong skills in Python or Matlab,
